Cantors

The cantor is a person of faith dedicated to the ongoing study and
awareness of the message of scripture expressed through song.
Further, the cantor should have an understanding of the balance
needed between prayerful Presence and the enthusiasm of sung
praise is foundational. through their leadership the community of
faith is guided to a sacred place of prayer.

We are always looking for new cantors to lead the assembly's sung
praise.  A program of apprenticeship is personalized to the extent
that it lasts as long as needed. First, the apprentice "shadows" the
cantors at Mass, then later sings with the cantor. When the apprentice
feels confident, he/she welcomes the congregation and announces hymns.
Only when the apprentice feels comfortable and relaxed will they lead
the congregation.

Practice tapes are made available one week before the cantor is
scheduled to sing. Practice sessions with the music minister can be
scheduled on an individual basis.

Cantor schedules will be listed on this site and in the weekly bulletin.
Hard copies are available from the music minister.
