Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at St. Bartholomew supports the broader mission and vision of the congregation, but it focuses on particular ways to express that vision through emphasizing music as a gift of God, and as a means of worship, education, mission, and fellowship. The Music Ministry Worship Groups consist of the following:

My Sisters' Keeper Closet

Pastoral Care

This ministry serves the pastoral care needs of the elderly and homebound through Rosary and Scripture Communion services at Piper Shores in Scarborough on the first and third Wednesday of the month. Also being served with a Rosary and Scripture Communion service is Village Crossing in Cape Elizabeth every second and fourth Thursday of the month. We also bring communion to individuals who are not able to participate in Sunday Mass because of illness or injury. If you are interested in helping us to bring prayer, the Word, and communion to those that are homebound in either facility, even if you are not yet a Eucharistic minister, training will be provided.

PRAYER LINE: St. Bartholomew Parish offers participation in a “prayer line” for special intentions. If you have an illness, unemployment, safety issue, etc., for which you would like prayers, these requests can be called into the prayer line. All intentions can be kept confidential. You can also join this ministry and share your devotion to the “power of prayer.” We are all able to experience the privilege of healing the sick according to Christ’s message.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Knit a shawl individually or within a group. Receive basic knitting or crocheting instructions and prayers to get started. If you do not know how to knit or crochet, we would be happy to show you how or perhaps, you can donate some yarn to make a shawl. We need at least three skeins of yarn to knit a prayer shawl. Prayer shawls are annually blessed at Mass. Then, they are distributed to those who are in crisis, so that their prayers and ours may bring them comfort and spiritual healing.

Welcoming Ministry

The Welcoming Ministry is comprised of warm, and friendly parish representatives in each of the 21 neighborhoods in Cape Elizabeth.  We welcome new parishioners who move into our neighborhoods (including Scarborough and South Portland) with a personal visit, a packet of parish information, a beautiful cross from the parish, an optional home blessing, and invitation to future parish events.  We also sponsor an annual ‘Welcome Reception’ after Masses for our parishioners who have just joined our parish in the past year.  For a list of neighborhood contacts, click here.
