WHO WAS
BARTHOLOMEW?

Saint Bartholomew is a relatively unknown individual in history.  However, his
likeness portrayed by Michaelangelo in the Sistine Chapel is recognized by
millions as the individual who is holding his skin in his left hand while his right
hand holds a flaying knife.  This reflects the manner of his martyrdom -- Saint
Bartholomew was martyred by being flayed alive.
